The Government believes that the Pupil Premium Grant, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle the disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most (DfE April 2012).


Children eligible to receive this funding are in three groups:
> Children entitled to free school meals or those who have been eligible in the past 6 years (Ever 6 FSM)
> Pupils who have been adopted from care or have left care
> Children of service personnel (Service Pupil Premium)
