Tudor Pottage

As part of our Terrific Tudors topic, we made Tudor pottage. We washed and prepared the vegetables, before chopping them along with the herbs. When it was ready it smelt really good, most of us thought it was absolutely delicious!

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to our Year 3 who received the Sacrament of Holy Communion today. You were a credit to your families and to the school. You were reverent throughout and your behaviour was outstanding. What a wonderful occasion it was! May God bless you and guide you always.

Halle Orchestra

Today we had the most amazing experience, with the Halle Orchestra concert at the Victoria Hall. We played ukulele with the orchestra and had the opportunity to sing alongside them and other schools involved. We loved taking part in this special musical experience.

Pentecost

We have been learning about the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost In the photos below we have created a freeze frame to show how the disciples felt after they received the Holy Spirit

Dogs Trust workshop

We thoroughly enjoyed our workshop with Alison from the Dog's Trust, where we learnt how to 'Be Dog Smart', this involved how to behave safely around your own dog and dogs in the community.

Floating Paperclips

We have been learning that magnets have a special power that enables them to attract other magnetic things such as iron, steel, cobalt and nickel. Magnets have two main forces - push and pull. We have been investigating objects that are attracted to a magnet. We also did a magic trick!

Magnificent Magnetic Mazes

We really enjoyed designing and making our magnificent magnetic mazes!

Spring Term

What makes the Earth angry?

Throughout this term, we have been learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. We looked at the science behind a volcanic eruption, made papier-mâché volcanoes and recreated an erupting volcano. We also researched how volcanoes and earthquakes affects people’s lives around the world

Making Volcanoes

Erupting volcanoes

Science week

During Science week we were given the challenge of building the most secure structure so it would survive an earthquake we could only using spaghetti and marshmallows. We had a great time working in teams with some of our parents and grandparents with a time limit and thinking about the best way to get the highest structure.  The structures were tested by shaking the table and almost all of the structures survived!

Performance poetry

As a part of our topic 'Escape from Pompeii' we worked in small groups to create a performance poem about an earthquake using synonyms, rhyming words and onomatopoeias. We really enjoyed performing these for our classmates.

Preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation

Through role play, we explored what happens during the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We thought about times when they have wronged others and examined our conscience and this gave us an insight of what we need to do when we make the Sacrament of Reconciliation next week.

 Supermovers

We have been using  a website called Supermovers to help us learn times tables, grammar, improve our French and lots of other things. Here are a few photos of us movin' to the beat.

RE

We explored the parable of the prodigal son through discussion and role-play. We found the lesson really interesting as we considered how the characters were feeling at different parts of the story and what they represent.

 Assembly

On 1st February we had our class assembly on the theme of St Thomas Aquinas and Reconciliation. We discussed how we all aspire to follow in the life of patron saint of our school. Also about how we feel and what we are doing in order for us to take the next step on our journey of faith as we prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation.

Enrolment Mass

On Sunday 27th January, pupils from Year 3 gathered at Our Lady of the Angels & St. Peter in Chains, with their family and friends for their Enrolment Mass. We pray for them as they prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.

Autumn Term

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about the place value of three digit numbers. Have a look at how we have used place value counters to create different numbers.

We then used our knowledge of place value to order numbers along a number line.

We loved using our digit flips to find 1, 10 or 100 more or less than a 3 digit number.

RE

In RE, we have been learning about Baptism and we acted out the rite of Baptism in groups.

We have also looked at the story of the call of Samuel to understand the importance of listening. In groups, we acted out scenes to show the consequences of not listening. Take a look below!

ART

We have loved learning about the Stone Age as part of our topic. We created some fantastic art work using the Stone Age colours.

PE

In PE, we have been developing the skills for basketball. We really enjoyed applying our skills to a basketball game which we played against our peers.
