Summer Term

Year 4, 5 and 6 Mass

This half term we enjoyed a lovely mass celebrating St Irenaeus, the Doctor of Unity. it was a lovely mass and especially lovely as our wonderful parishioners could also join us for the celebration.

Spring Term

In our English lessons, we are currently studying the work of Jeremy Strong and we are finding his books so funny! We got great enjoyment from acting out some of the episodes in his story 'This is NOT a Fairy Tale'. Have a look at our freeze frames- can you spot the Waggletooth Witch, the Trolls of Tiddly Crag or the Black Bear?

St Thomas Aquinas' Feast Day! We loved learning more about our class Saint. We created fact files and then looked at four of our favourite quotes as a class. We are currently in the middle of creating a piece of Art to reflect our chosen quotes. In the afternoon, we were lucky to come together to celebrate a mass in honour of our school Saint. What a lovely day we had.

“Nothing created has ever been able to fill the heart of man. God alone can fill it infinitely.”

“The knowledge of God is the cause of all things.”

“To love is to will the good of the other.”

“How is it they live in such harmony the billions of stars – when most men can barely go a minute without declaring war in their minds about someone they know.”

Using Chess boards in Maths helped us to explore square numbers and was a fun way to learn! We collaborated well as a team and used our teamworking skills.
We also used base ten equipment to multiply 2 digit numbers using the area model. We then applied our learning to the column method.

Autumn Term

In Art, we have been studying the work of William Morris. We used research into his work as inspiration for our own designs. We then collected items of nature and used them to explore printing techniques. We combined all of our skills and knowledge to create a final print design in the style of William Morris.

Take a look at some of our finished prints. Which one would you choose as your wallpaper, curtain design or cushion print?

In Science, we have been learning all about materials and their properties. In groups, we used our scientific enquiry skills to observe and classify materials.

We have really enjoyed our 'Gender Balance in Computing' project this term with Mrs Alaimo. We learned all about the use of computers in the world of work and made links to careers with a live role model session, allowing us to ask questions to further explore this area.

A huge thank you to Phil from CAFOD who taught us all lots more about Catholic Social Teaching. A very informative session for all!

We had great fun being explorers in our outdoor learning session with Mr Fox and Mr Nolan where we used map skills to find the hidden letters.  By the end of the lesson, we made fantastic progress in our orienteering skills and added a key to the map of the local area.

In our PE lessons, we have been learning passing and dribbling skills with Sam from Bee Active. Take a look at us in action!

On 8th September it is Our Blessed Mother Mary's birthday. We celebrated this occasion throughout the school with a birthday cupcake and in Year 5, we researched gender equality, past and present.

Summer Term

It was 'British Science Week ' and we had lots of fun learning all about renewable energy! We learnt about the damage digging for fossil fuels can cause and how we can help the environment by using renewable energy. Our big experiment was to see if we could lift a glue stick off the ground...only with wind power!

On Wednesday 30th June, we had a super fun day with our Skills Builders Day. We spent the day working on lots of essential skills like speaking, listening, leadership and teamwork! Our task was to create a souvenir that we could eventually sell in the future. Our Geography topic is North America so it was a great chance to include some cross curricular learning. We had some fantastic designs and everyone received a certificate for a special skill they worked on during the day.
